Hi

Suggest you send a personal message to mack (global moderator).

He helped me with research about my grandad, 44510 A-CPL Stanley Gilbert Gordon Vince who I now know was in the Manc. Regiment 20th Bn., (5th PALS).   He was able to send me a list of reinforcements (numbered & named above & below my grandads details) who became Manchester Regiment soldiers in 1916 - presumably to bring the Regiment back to strength after their losses at the battle of Fricourt in July 1916 on the Somme.

My grandad was in the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) before becoming a Manchester soldier & I assume that the reinforcements with him on the list from mack were all probably 'London lads' either residents or workers like him in the City.  My grandad went overseas with the Manchester Regiment & was then put into the 20th Bn.  He was in the field in October 1916 & I am still trying to find out more about his theatre of war after this date.

Good luck :)

My great grandfather was John Ormesher - injured on 1st July 1916 at the somme. Then into the mancs after recovering at Winchester military hospital. Is this the same person?

21884 J Ormesher of S Lancs and from St Helens was recorded in a wounded list of 21/07/1916, so that fits with your gt grandfather being wounded on 1 July 1916.
45276 John Ormesher has a pension card indicating he died in 1925/26.
It would be helpful to know what evidence we have to verify if this is your gt grandfather.

Yes 21884 John Ormesher does seem to line up on the injured list date but not the location. The family do have links to St Helens area and kore specifically Rainford but he and at least a generation before him were all of Dalton Lancs. The news paper cutting i have that mentions hos being onjured and his mother informed also lists then as being at crow lane, dalton, appley bridge.

You could check through all the J* Ormesher medal rolls.  I expect this will prove that the Appley Bridge chap is 45276 John Ormesher.
