23429 Pte Alphonse Vince - 11 Manch. R.
« on: January 23, 2009, 03:16:25 PM »
Whilst researching my grandad Stanley Gilbert Gordon Vince (44510, A - CPL Manchester Regiment) & his 2 brothers who fought in WW1 I was interested to find the medal card for Alphonse Vince who appears to have been a Private in the 11th Battalion Manchester Regiment. It is next to that of my grandfathers older brother, Alfonso Vince.  See the 2 centre medal cards on the attached image.

It looks to me as if Alphonse was awarded 3 medals, Victory, War Service Medal 1914 - 20 & Star in 1915.   What was this Star medal?  Can anyone tell me more about this medal & why it was awarded & send me an image please?  My grandfathers brother, Alfonso, was awarded this as well.

Alphonse Vince appears to have entered the war on 17/7/1915 & his theatre of war was in the Balkans.  He was discharged on the 24/3/1919 by the looks of the medal card.  If what I have posted is incorrect in any way please do correct - if any wants to explain more about the medal cards - great!

This submission maybe of interest to surviving relatives?  Are their any out there?  Is Alphonse Vince already well known to the Museum of Manchester Regiment?

The Medal card image will be given to the Museum of Manchester Regiment in due course with all my other material.  :)

1914 Star
Instituted in 1917 for service ashore in France and Flanders between 5 August and 22 November 1914. In 1919 a clasp bearing the above dates was authorised and given to those individuals who had actually been under fire between the prescribed dates.

1914/15 Star
Authorised in 1918, the 1914/15 Star was awarded to those individuals who saw service in France and Flanders from 23 November 1914 to 31 December 1915, and to those individuals who saw service in any other operational theatre from 5 August 1914 to 31 December 1915.

only the date differs on the stars both as photo
