Remembered today :

11th January 1916.
8638 Private John Pownall Holt. D Company, 13 Platoon, 17th Battalion. The Son of Benjamin and Frances Holt of 34, College Road, Whalley Range. A clerk with the Manchester Ship Canal Company. Killed by shellfire at Suzanne 11th January 1916 aged 27. Buried in Suzanne Communal Extension Cemetery.

10486 Private Reginald Davies. C Company, 10 Platoon, 18th Battalion. The Son of  William and Elizabeth Davies of Leith House, Rhuddlan, Flintshire. A Grocer with Seymour Mead and Company. Killed in action at Moulin de Fargny 12th January 1916 aged 24. Buried in Suzanne Communal Extension Cemetery.

13th January

32059 Private Matthew Higginbottom, 3rd Battalion. (Served as Massey).Son of the late Matthew and Maria Jones of Dukinfield, Cheshire. (His Father, Matthew was one of the 54 men and boys killed in the Astley deep pit disaster on the 14th April 1874 leaving a widow and 3 children)
Died at home 13th January 1916 aged 41. Buried in Audenshaw Cemetery.

9872 Corporal Oswald Hulton. A Company, 1 Platoon, 18th Battalion. The Son of Samuel and Mary Emma Hulton of 113 Holly Bank, Moston. A Commercial traveller with J Mandlebergh And Company of Pendleton. Killed in action at Eclusier crossroads aged 25. Buried in Suzanne Communal Extension cemetery by the Battalion Padre, The Reverend R. W Balleine.

50398 Private Joseph Pearson, 23rd Battalion. The Husband of Emily Finneran (Formerly Pearson) of 5, Poplar Street, Audenshaw. Killed in action 15th January 1918 aged 27. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial.

16th January 1917

40773 Private Albert Dale, 22nd Battalion. Son of Frederick and the late Martha Dale of Oxheys Farm, Tarporley, Cheshire. Employed at the Alliance Insurance Company and a former pupil of Nantwich and Aston Grammar school. Died of wounds on the 16th January 1917 aged 26. Buried in Varennes military cemetery and commemorated on the Wrenbury war memorial.

53723 Private Charles John Coley. 2/5th Battalion. Husband of Elizabeth Alice Coley of 34, Exeter Buildings, Zoar Street, Southwark. Formerly served as 4820, Royal Army Service Corp. Killed in action 17th January 1918 aged 31. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial

11128 Private Thomas Arthur Hatfield. D Company, 13 Platoon, 18th Battalion. The Son of Thomas Arthur and Eliza Hatfield of 19, Dudley Grove, Brooks Bar. A Turner for Charles Macintosh and Company. Wounded by artillery fire 19th January at Moulin de Fargny. Died of his wounds at the 98th Field Ambulance the following day aged 19. Buried in Suzanne Communal Extension Cemetery on the 22nd January by the Reverend H.A Thompson.

Died of disease in the 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples on the 25th January 1917 aged 23. Buried in Etaples Military Cemetery.
