the silver war badge came into being in late 1916

this is from the National Archives site

The Silver War Badge, sometimes erroneously called the Silver Wound Badge, was authorised in September 1916 and takes the form of a circular badge with the legend "For King and Empire-Services Rendered" surrounding the George V cypher. The badge was awarded to all of those military personnel who were discharged as a result of sickness or wounds contracted or received during the war, either at home or overseas.

the list are not really searchable but there medal cards that can be searched

if you tell us who you are looking for/into, we may be able to help

cheers

Hi again Chris,
Re the SWB. My mothers, fathers brother was awarded the badge 1915 I think. He was Sgt [A/Colour Sgt Major, according to his AF B 248] 3042 Fred Jackson. Was originally 5041 Sgt, previous service - with the colours 1 Aug 1897 until 21 Feb 1905, reserve 22 Feb 1905 until 28 Feb 1909.
Many thanks.

Hi Themonsstar,
Sorry I do not have a copy of his medal index card :(. The info is all word of mouth and notes. I was rather hoping one of you guys might have something like that.
Regards.

Hi there, I am looking through 399 Jacksons in the Manchesters. Did they not start 1916? only you have 1915. His number hasn't come up under the Fred's, was there another name as well?

Hi Tisgrannie,
Sorry the only info I have is 3042 [possible 3072] Fred Jackson born 5 Jul 1878, he was apparently re-enlisted 14 Sep 1914 aged 38.
