Uncle Harry

Hi there everyone, I'm new just registered but been a guest just reading for a while.
My Uncle Harry was in 1/10th Battalion Manchesters he was killed in france 17th april 1918
I wondered if anyone has anymore information like were he joined or anything at all.
His Details are
Henry Ross private 275461
according to his medal card he joined  6th May 1915.

mobilised on 4th aug 1914,and joined his battalion,at burlington st barracks.
sailed for gallipoli on 9th sept 1914
landed on gallipoli on 5-5-1915
renumbered as 275461 and joined 1/10th manchesters
resided at 17 kenneth st,higher broughton
mother johanna[remarried,now mrs johanna woodbridge]
father henry[deceased]
sister emma
brother,phillip.
born,higher broughton.1895
formerly lived at 3 broughton rd,salford.
killed in action,17-4-18
aged 23.
buried,couin new british cemetery
grave ref.C 27.

his brother.
pte 2054 phillip ross
1/8th lancashire fusiliers
17 kenneth st,higher broughton.
born,higher broughton.1898
mobilised on 4th aug 1914.
aged 16
he sailed for egypt in the same convoy as henry,he also landed on gallipoli at the same time.
they both fought on the somme,and at cambrai.
phillip was invalided home with trench foot,and retained on home service.[renumbered as 305339]
he was demobilised on 5-4-1919.

Could you tell me why was he renumbered and changed battalions

hiya wensley.
all soldiers serving in territorial battalions,were renumbered in 1917.
phillip+henry,both left gallipoli on the evacuation of the penninsular,they then went back to egypt.
