RSM Wade 21st battn

(Sorry - Lost my first attempt at a reply - hope this is not duplicated!)
Hi everyone.
This is a wonderful site - just finding my way round it! Credit due to those who are willing to give time to other people's queries. Wonderful stuff.
I have little knowledge and no relatives with information about my Great Grandfather whose surname was Wade (I do not know his christian name).  I have inherited a small autograph book that belonged to my Great Grandmother and the first page bears her name Mrs E Wade, 131 Greame Street, Moss Side, Manchester. It contains signatures from several  Sargeants of the 21st Service Batallion Manchester Regiment which are mostly dated 1915 and some mention Larkhill, suggesting this was where they were all based (including my Great Grandmother). Could my Great Grandfather have been a member of the 21st? Perhaps my Great Grandmother's inital E is my Great Grandfather's initial?
Could anyone start filling my blank page in?
Thanks for reading this and I keep my fingers crossed someone can help.
Regards - Robinetta.

hi robinetta

and welcome to the group

i have plucked this out from the ancestry thread so we can look at it a bit closer

i suspect...or rather i have a possible GGF for you

certainly the 21st were in Larkhill, the 21st were a pals battalion and were trying to molded into the british army there :)

in the 21st's lists we have a Regimental Sergeant Majors Name E WADE 4/2952

do you think you'd recognise him?

Hi Robinetta ~ Welcome, and thanks for your kind words of praise !!!

It looks like 4/2952 RSM Wade went abroad, but still no first name  ::) Here is the link to his Medal Index Card (MIC) it'll cost you £3.50 to download.  It might help.

just a thought ~ have you gone down the route of obtaining your grandmother/father's birth certificate and their fathers name should be on it  ???

A warm hello to everyone,

Sorry my response is delayed - visitors and grandchildren and all that!
I am overwhelmed at all this information and keep reading it all over and over again to soak it in. I would never have got anywhere without you all.
Thanks to Chris, Wendi, Roy and Mack - and anyone I might have missed. This is a wonderful start to my search.
Mack I would love a photo. That would be amazing.
Cant get over how lucky I was to find this site.

Kind regards, Robinetta

Robinetta I'm so glad you picked up your replies !

nearly brought me to tears when mack asked if you wanted a photo - he did that for me many years ago - it was a great moment!  I still to this day, treasure the only photo I have of my Great Uncle, which mack gave me

Glad you found us too !
