Hi forum members
this is my first post, so I hope I am in the correct part of the forum,
I have obtained my husbands grandfathers pension record.
he was with the Manchester's in WW1
he was with the 3rd then the 18th then the 17th and on the 12 oct 1916 he is recorded as wounded,
can anyone explain the listing chest 999 wounded, obviously I understand the chest part but what does the 999 mean, this fits in with a memory from his daughter that he was wounded in the shoulder,she thought twice.

can you read the entry for the 17th oct, I think it says -----depot,
there are more pages but if I resize any more they pixilate too badly to read

i suspect it says C-list 999, which (i suspect again) is casualty list

---- depot would usually manchester or regimental depot  ( ashton)

i'll post any documents you want looking at

would c list 999 be available at tameside archive and would it just be a list of wounded, that is not give details of the wounds.

henry lived at 24 barmouth street openshaw manchester, he was a collier at bradford pit, before and after the war. he died from injuries in a pit fall.

he registered his vote from this address,in oct 1917

pte 45879 george payton,labour corps was his net door neighbour
22 barmouth st.

henry is listed in the roll of honour for bradford colliery.

Of course not  It's not everyday that one uncovers a WW1 Pension Record, great for your family, Henry sounds like quite a chap

his description has raised many a chuckle from us he was 5ft 3 and 1/8 inches tall, and has many tattoos some of them a lady's name that was not his wife.

   i wondered about that!

I intend to continue the research at tameside archives apparently they hold the records for the manchesters.

please tell me more, I was pointed there by the museum, I would like to tell where he was and what the battalion were doing I have already got a lot of that from your site, I know ordinary privates don't get mentioned by name very often, but the family have henry in every battle of WW1, from his pension record he was only at the Somme and that seems be where he was wounded.
would the casualty list 999 have his wound or just that he was wounded?
