2nd Manchesters arrived in Alexandria during August 1882. They left for India in October.   The 1st Battalion, on their way home from India, met up with the 2nd Battalion in Alexandria in October shortly before the 2nd left for India.

Hi Millsy !

I did not realise the Manchester's were in Egypt so early on !!!

Do you have a specific interest?

Hi Wendy

I have found a death registration for a James Barry in1899 in Alexandria and I am trying to establish if this is my Grans brother they lived in the OLdham/Royton area  so he might have joined the Manchesters'

Hi Millsy !

You obviously have reasons for thinking he died abroad before 1901, am I right?  If he was in the forces and finished his service before WW1 his records should be at The National Archives.

I was wondering if you had ruled out the Boar War?
