Looking for any information.
« on: August 11, 2008, 01:06:59 AM »
Hello I am Hayley and new so please be gentle with me..

I am researching my FT and have been passed information on my Uncle who was a Japanese POW. I know he was in the Manchester Regiment but do not know the company. I think this may be him
Wilde, J.,L Corp   Bibai-Machi POW camp, repatriated in 1945

He was Lance Corp J.W. Wilde known as Bill. Born 1915.

Any further information would be a great bonus.

Thank you ... Hayley x  ;)

hello hayley

and welcome to the group  ( we're always gentle  ;D)

we will see if we can find some information on Bill, but generally soldiers service records for WW2 have not been made public, we may have some info on him as a POW

you can apply for his service records, have a look at this link for the details

Welcome Hayley
Your uncle's name is on this list for the Hakodate Main (Bibai-Machi) POW camp Hokkaido Island Japan.  See:  http://www.mansell.com/pow_resources/camplists/hokkaido/main-bubai-british.html
As well as his service record you can probably find his POW Record Card and Liberation Questionier Card in the National Archive at Kew, they will tell you where else he was held POW.  If you are not able to get there I am sure there is someone on the "Forum" who can help get the information.

Hi Hayley & welcome from me too !
as my Uncle had/has a daughter I am not his next of kin will i still be able to apply for the service record ?
Either she can apply, or if she is not interested, but has no objection to you applying, they will accept her letter of authority to issue to you.

Glad you like the site !

Wendi  :)
