Delhi Durbar Roll 1911
« on: April 10, 2023, 05:54:53 PM »
I've seen a few inconsistencies with the Medal Roll and people who claimed to have received the Medal.  Having assumed this was an embelishment I now find reference in the Regimental History that make me think again.
"...the 12th was the day of the Durbar. Captain Hastings, D.S.O., Lieutenants Heelis and Tillard, with 72 other ranks representing the battalion in the Durbar Amphitheatre..."
The three officers cannot be seen in the roll!
Any thoughts?

Have you checked the Army Lists to see if they were Manchesters officers and not attached or seconded and therefore appearing on their parent regiment‘s roll ?

Good tip, Charlie,

All three are on the 1st / 2nd Bn list in 1911 & 12.  Heelis has been attached to the Northern Nigeria Regt in 1907, but evidently returned by Dec 1911.
