Pte 200069 Leigh Winstanley

Pte Leigh (born 1893) enlisted 6/3/1911 and served overseas with 2/5th Bttn from 6/3/1917.  He was awarded the MM and was discharged with SWB entitled to TFWM, BWM & VM on 12/6/1918, aged 25y 3m.  His condition S.D.H. was due to service.  (Subdural Hematoma)
Leigh died on 23/10/1920 from Perforation of Stomach – Acute Peritoneal – Kidney Disease.  This appears unrelated to service.
His unmarried widow Sarah Ann Prescott received a Pension, 10 St John’s Terr, Normanton.

buried normanton upper cemetery,wakefield,buried in a unmarked grave.section L.row 6.space 15
died in clayton hospital,wakefield

pte[stretcher bearer]leigh winstanley was awarded the MM in 1917 for gallantry

he formerly lived at 157 whelley,wigan
formerly a drawer at meadow pit,haigh
married sarah,ann swann at st.georges church,wigan 6-4-1912
sarah later married nicholas prescott in 1922
