My grandad Bernard McCormack b.1906 - Service No 3523134. Enlisted & posted to 8th Battalion (12/11/28).
Discharged 11/11/32. Re-enlisted 16/3/38. Appointed L/Cpl 25/1/40. Posted to No 1 Infantry Base
Depot (26/4/40). Posted to 8th Battalion (7/5/40). I would like to know more about his time in Malta (May 1940-Aug 1943)& how he was captured in Italy 26 May 1944.
Thanks
Mark

Mark,
Fom my forthcoming book on the Ardwicks (Target date 2009)

(The Battalion had arrived in Italy during April 1944)

"Lance Corporal Bernard McCormick  and Private Haydock formed a two-man patrol, which went behind enemy lines during the night of the 26th. (May) The intention was to remain there for 72 hours observing enemy activities.  However on the 29th two German deserters surrendered to the adjacent 2/3rd Gurkhas and gave the information that the two British soldiers had been captured on the previous day."
