WALTER CARTWRIGHT SERVICE NO. 2012 1ST MANCHESTER REGIMENT
« on: July 22, 2019, 09:23:45 AM »
I am researching my husbands grandfather Walter Cartwright. I have just come across this Walter Cartwright, service no. 2012 and wonder if it is the same person.  I have no other details on 2012, other than name and number.  I live in Australia, so can't go to National Archives in Kew to check the records, is there anywhere I can verify if it is the same man?  Our Walter was born in 1900 in Dudley, Worcestershire, possibly wounded while serving  in Ireland, migrated to Australia in 1923 and died there in 1956.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It is not impossible, but very unlikely, that 2012 Walter Cartwright was your husbands Grandfather. He was either a pre war regular soldier or a recalled reservist who went to France on 27th August 1914. His number indicates he enlisted about 1911.
