Colonel Lewis took over command of the 20th Manchesters on the 6th March 1916 from Lt.Col. Spencer Mitchell who eventually commanded the 5th (Reserve) Manchester Regt. at Scarborough, a unit to which Wilfred Owen was posted.   In this connection, I note that in a letter to his mother from Scarborough Owen  writes concerning Mitchell : "Who is not liked among his 70 officers".     PhilipG.

There is very little on Mitchell on the internet.

He was replace as CO of the 20th Bn , or was he removed?
