Title: George Robinson
Post by: robinson on June 26, 2011, 05:57:03 PM
Hello All

My ancestor George Robinson, who I have mentioned before on this forum served in the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment, Private 6470 during WW1. I have recently obtained thanks to the find my past website a record of a George Robinson private 8105 6th battalion Manchester Regiment enlisting and serving in 1901, I know my ancestor was serving in the army before WW1 and although his address was Salford that being different from his three brothers also serving in the Manchester Regiment. It could still be him as his future wife was living in Salford at the time. Is there any way I could find out if these two soldiers were the same man.

Thank you.

Robinson.

Robinson,

6470 Pte. George Robison was killed on 25.12.1914.

In 1901 the 6th Bn .were a Militia Bn and many men did serve in S. Africa.

His number could change by WW1.

The only way to tell is details on his papers and working out his dob and see if it fits.  Check alsi the 1901 cencus, neither should be on it if its him.

regards

Hi Sphinx

Thank you for your info I have matched the age between our George's birth certificate and the George in the records there is four months difference in age, how accurate were the records?
I could not find much on the 1901 census, this George was in the 63rd and 96th foot Regiment.
Our George had a brother Joseph in the 63rd and 96th Foot Regiment.
