Title: Age Limit
Post by: M/C P on August 07, 2008, 07:03:49 AM
I would appreciate advice concerning the age limit in the Manchester Regiment. Would age 52 be acceptable for combat? I know many lied about their ages at both ends of the scale.
Anyway, I would be pleased  and very interested to hear your views.
Thank you,
Pat

the new armies recruited men up to 31, under conscription men up to 41 would be available for military service, however there are many cases of men (regulars iirc) getting killed in action in their 60s

Dear Chris

Thank you very much I thought that it would not be the norm especially as he was, or could have been a Regular. I am in a bit of a dilemma really as this man was 41 on his marriage in 1903, and at that age he is not mine, but it may be possible that my soldier married someone else of the same first name of Catherine, so it is back to stage 1 where 'I know nothin'!  No one said it would be easy but I thought it would be! or could be!!

Thank you again you are such a great help and it is really appreciated.
