While I was in Ashton I managed to get a copy of Major Weston's 1914
diary as well as finding additional information to the war diaries, I came
across something I had not come across before.
Important details of a sensitive nature were written in shorthand, after
googling using short hand in ww1 I did come across the following
web site.

They seem to think it is a form of Pitmans.
If I can reconfirm that I'm allowed to reproduce the pictures on
the forum I will attached some of the pages.
Later in the diary some of the shorthand has had the place written
in red ink above them.
